; Who are you using for your critical health records?

Are you using a developer or reseller for your critical health records?

Medical software is an important part of your medical practice. When you make a purchase be sure that you are working with a company that actually understands the field that they are working in. You need someone who can work with your medical practice and actually make adjustments, when needed; according to your specific office workflow. You don’t ask a carpenter for a hammer and instead get a screwdriver. If that were to happen you probably would wonder "does this individual even know what they doing".

The same principles should apply to your health records technology implementation. When you select an application you want to know that the company doing the implementation actually (1) understands your needs and (2) is able to match those needs with a product that works specifically for you. Experience is the key to any software implementation and simply using "buzz words" should be a flag to take a second look. You want a carefully thought out plan and exemplary execution by the vendor.

Consider the following:

  • Does the vendor have a base of medical offices using the product?
  • Are they able to make changes for you, or will they simply defer the information to some other company?
  • Do they understand medical terminology, office practices and the overall healthcare field?

Some companies may refer to a base of clients that are not actually their own. For example, are you using a reseller who is one of many providing the same product? Some vendors refer to an entire client base and not their own. If you need a programming change, or adjustment, is the vendor actually able to accommodate your request or needs? Finally are they simply installing the application, hardware and equipment; without a full understanding of your medical office needs? Taking time to get answers to these important questions will help you in your move to a proper implementation of health records in Ontario.
